United Nation High Comissioner for Refugees
The refugee agency is a global operation with 277 offices in 120 countries and a staff of more than 5,000 people. It currently helps around 17 million people. The administration of this worldwide operation has become highly complex, ranging from the recruitment of new staff, their protection and security in highly dangerous situations to the procurement of everything from medical supplies, bulk food shipments to fleets of aircraft to help refugees return home.

Die Deutsche Stiftung für UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe e.V. hilft bedürftigen Flüchtlingen in aller Welt. Als Förderverein unterstützt sie Flüchtlingsprojekte von UNHCR und UNRWA (UNO-Hilfswerk für Palästinaflüchtlinge im Nahen Osten) sowie andere humanitäre Organisationen im In- und Ausland. Die hierfür notwendigen Mittel werden durch Beiträge ihrer Mitglieder, insbesondere aber durch Spenden aufgebracht.

UNHCR ist eine weltweit tätige Organisation mit 268 Büros in 114 Ländern, über 5200 Mitarbeitern und einem Jahresbudget von über einer Milliarde US-Dollar (Angaben vom Juli 2002). Mit der weltweiten Tätigkeit sind gewaltige organisatorische Aufgaben verbunden. Sie reichen von der Auswahl neuer Mitarbeiter und ihrem Schutz an oftmals gefährlichen Einsatzorten bis zur Beschaffung von medizinischen Hilfsgütern und der Organisation von Transportmitteln, um die freiwillige Heimkehr von Flüchtlingen zu ermöglichen. |

Europarat
Der Europarat ist die älteste (1949) zwischenstaatliche politische Organisation des Kontinents, die 46 Mitglieder hat. Er ist von der Euopäischen Union und ihren Einrichtungen vollkommen unabhängig. Sein Sitz ist in Straßburg (Frankreich).
Der Europarat hat unter anderem die Europäische Menschenrechtskonvention (EMRK), die Konvention zur Verhinderung der Mehrstaatigkeit und die Europäische Staatsangehörigkeitskonvention erlassen. Zudem setzt er die Urteile des Europäischen Menschrechtsgerichtshof (EGMR) durch. |
